FICO acquiring Dash Optimization - threat to Ilog?

Some guy posted on yahoo Ilog board that "
As I understand it, XPRESS-MP is actually superior to CPLEX for solving integer programming problems - exactly the type of problems the need to be solved in most decision support systems. Now that Dash has some serious backing and presumably a decent marketing budget things are going to get tough for CPLEX. FIC has stabbed ILOG right in the guts"


I have to say that it means just the opposite - FIC's sudden realization that optimization is necessary for any serious BI vendor. And Ilog has one of the best integer solvers in industry - Solver, they have been using it since 80s and this was their flagship product back then. Their problem is not the lack of the good technologies or people, but their inability to create an expanding market (or may be it is market's fault, it is too immature for serious tasks:). Another problem is the lack of a real integration of their BRMS and optimization products. And they are slow to adopt SemWeb standards to have a common semantic platform for all the tools.

Ok, then, somebody else will do it, and not necessary FIC ;)
